19th Belfast Brownies
Our Brownie Pack meets on Wednesday evenings in the Megaw Room in Newtownbreda Church Halls.
We run from September to June and girls aged from seven years to ten years of age would always be made welcome.
We have a varied and balanced programme with the emphasis on fun and friendship. We work around the five Guide essentials.
1. Brownies work together in small groups (sixes)
2. Brownies are encouraged to govern themselves (pow wow)
3. Brownies have a balanced and varied programme (Brownie Books Adventure and Adventure On)
4. Brownies care for the individual
5. Brownies share a commitment to a common standard (Promise and Law)
Girls work in small groups called sixes (named Pixies, Leprechauns and Elves). They make decisions in a Pow wow. This is when the whole Pack sits in a circle together with only one person being able to speak at one time.
I promise the I will love my God, serve my Queen and Country, Help other people and keep the Brownie Guide Law.
A Brownie thinks of others before herself and does a good turn every day.
We follow the Brownie Adventure and Adventure On books in our programme. The Brownie Badge Book is very popular as the girls can choose from a number of interest badges. They are given a number of activities to complete and gain a badge at the end.
Games are top priority and we try to play at least three games each week with many different games being played throughout the year. We also cover Craft, Art, Drama, Dance or Singing each week.
Several themed evenings have been held this year - for example Sports, Fancy Dress, Entertainment, Getting to know you and Animals.
We have three adult leaders known as Guiders who are fully trained by the Guide Association.
